Water Industry Asset Management
OFWAT efficiency targets continue to put pressure on water companies to reduce operating cost and risk. Meniscus has a vast amount of experience in helping the water industry to meet these targets by providing process performance monitoring to derive key process indicators. These can be used to determine whether plant performance is within operating targets and to benchmark performance against other similar facilities.

Our IPMS Process Monitoring Service provides process information, previously not readily available to most companies, that helps to highlight areas requiring improvement. Continuous monitoring and reporting ensures that an optimised process maintains its performance rather than slipping back into old ways.
The Meniscus service allows management to concentrate on implementing process optimisation rather than data collection and number crunching. It also enables the water companies to react to process changes much earlier on, reducing the risk of breaching compliance and adversely affecting customers.

Meniscus is currently undertaking a joint water industry benchmarking project on 16 nitrifying and non nitrifying activated sludge plants comparing energy performance. To see specific information on benchmarking in the Water Industry

Wessex Water is using IPMS to derive benchmark power costs for specific unit processes at five water, and 65 wastewater treatment plant.

Meniscus also monitors performance at wastewater treatment plant for 5 of the other UK Water Companies.

Severn Trent Water has used Meniscus to drive down operating costs at its Coleshill Sludge Destruction Plant in Birmingham.
- Meniscus is monitoring the energy use (per Ml water pumped per per m head lift) for 100 boreholes to optimise pumping efficiency every half hour.
- Meniscus is using CUSUM analysis to automatically identify potential ragging, blockages and similar operational issues at over 120 pumping stations using just the half hour power data. An example of the CUSUM output is available on the menu opposite.
- Reports on ferric dosing rates, with comparison against budget and output phosphate levels, generated automatically using level data from ferric storage tanks.
