Open Source Energy Management
Software
The rise in energy prices is forcing companies to be ever
more vigilant in monitoring energy use - and the monitoring of energy bills is
a key part of this process. To help overcome some of the shortfalls in existing
software applications, Meniscus is developing an Open Source energy management
appication which will have a particular focus on the needs of the Water
Industry - in particular their need to manage large numbers of bills covering a
very large size and variation of assets.
Open Source means just that...anyone can use the software,
and anyone can access and change the underlying source code without any fees.
By going down the Open Source route it is hoped that companies will contribute
to the software themselves and as a consequence the rate of development and
take up will be much more rapid than under a standard commercial type
arrangement. Further details on how to view and access beta versions of the
code will be provided in the very near future - hopefully within the next
month.
